ART THERAPY

Transforming Brokenness into something Beautiful

"Healing Hearts" project in Ukraine helping the traumatized feel hope again.

Each day, our staff at Mission Without Borders in Ukraine, encounter people deeply affected by the war. These individuals have endured unimaginable trauma—many have lost their homes, communities, and, in some cases, their loved ones. Most have been direct witnesses to the brutal realities of war.

According to The Lancet, approximately 54% of Ukrainians are now suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The Ukrainian Health Ministry reports that the number of people seeking help for mental health issues has doubled in the past year alone.

The persistent danger and uncertainty that the war brings leaves people constantly battling fear and anxiety, which severely impacts their mental and physical well-being. Our staff and volunteers in Ukraine continue to pray for wisdom, strength and resources to help those who are suffering and guide them on their path to healing.

Recently, we hosted a special art therapy session at our office in Sarny for displaced individuals. Inna, a volunteer from the "Healing Heart" project, led the session alongside our staff. During the session, participants were asked to break a ceramic cup and then carefully piece it back together using gold-colored glue.

Inna explained, "The cup symbolizes life and its many experiences. Even though the cup is broken, it can be restored—just like us. Life's challenges may change us, but we can be mended and made whole again."

Oksana, one of our Christian outreach workers, added, "Many of those we serve carry deep wounds. These wounds need to be recognized and healed for people to move forward. While their past trauma cannot be erased, it can be managed in ways where it no longer defines their life."

Life's challenges may change us, but we can be mended and made whole again.

The art session beautifully reflects the message of God's healing and restoration. Just like the broken cup, we, too, can be shattered by life's challenges. But by the grace of God, love, and support, we believe it's not just possible but likely that those we serve can rebuild their lives and move forward with hope.

As Oksana shared, "We believe in a God who redeems and restores, and we trust that with His help, these families will be able to live a positive, productive, and empowered life."

This small but meaningful project reflects our larger mission to bring emotional, spiritual, and material support to those affected by the war. With God's grace and the kindness of donors like you, we continue to help rebuild broken lives and provide hope for a brighter future.
